Swimming

Cheltenham College boasts a 6 lane 25m indoor pool, with superb spectator viewing facilities. The pool has many uses, including water-polo, and all swimming activities from the young learn to swim programmes through to club involvement and senior swim squad sessions.

Within the school curriculum, the pool services both CCJS and CC swimming. There is also the capacity for further swimming outside of the timetables.
Within College swimming is developing. Swim Squads are available for both colleges, and the capacity to swim socially, or train for competition exists. Indeed there is also the ability to train jointly in order to raise standards and train specifically for inter-college galas and certain ASA competitions where we can. Senior College recently won a major national relay competition so high standards can be attained.

Many students find themselves in the swimming pool whilst recuperating from injuries caused doing other sports. Many of those students then choose to remain as swimmers as they enjoy the environment within the swimming programme so much. The programme itself is designed for development from a young age, through to seniors with higher skill levels, and some endurance base. The aim therefore is to develop future swimming success from within.

Senior College swimming is coached by Andy Osborne. Andy is a Level 3 ASA Club Coach and has been running the College swim programme for 4 years. He is also Performance Coach at Gloucester City SC, Coach on the ASA England Talent programme and has also coached on the England Schools programme coaching swimmers to National medals and to British Junior records. He has also been voted the ASA South West Regions Coach of the Year, twice in the last five years. Andy is currently working with swimmers from 11 years of age to 21 years of age, with many of those swimmers currently on International programmes.
