Cheltenham College boasts a six-lane 25m indoor pool, with superb spectator viewing facilities. Swim Squads are available for both College and Prep pupils and pupils can choose to swim socially or train for competitions.
Many students find themselves in the swimming pool whilst recuperating from injuries caused doing other sports but then choose to remain as swimmers as they enjoy the environment within the swimming programme so much.
We are fortunate to have Gloucester City Swimming Club training with at College twice a week, on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. Pupils from College are invited to join them during this time, and can also train with the club at GL1 on a Sunday evening.
Our relationship with the Gloucester City Swimming Club means that all our swimmers are members of the ASA, the governing body for swimming, which means they can take part in recognised county, regional and national events. Additionally, it has enabled four students to gain an ASA Level 1 swim teaching qualification.
Swimming is coached by Andy Osborne, who is a Level 3 ASA Club Coach and has been running the College swim programme for four years. He is also Performance Coach at Gloucester City Swimming Club, Coach on the ASA England Talent programme and has also coached on the England Schools programme coaching swimmers to National medals and to British Junior records. He has also been voted the ASA South West Regions Coach of the Year, twice in the last five years. Andy is currently working with swimmers from 11 years of age to 21 years of age, with many of those swimmers currently on international programmes.
