Tennis is a girls’ major sport in the Summer Term and incredibly popular for pupils of all abilities. College has four hard courts, resurfaced in June 2015, and twelve courts on our Astroturf pitches during the summer, so in total over 200 players regularly play the sport.
There are block fixtures on all Saturdays during the summer, with up to thirteen girls’ sides fielded on an afternoon. Three boys’ sides will play either during the week or on a Saturday. An Inter House Competition is also keenly contested in the Summer Term.
College enters the girls’ 1st IV in the LTA Senior Students competition, played in the winter months, and we reached the last 16 nationally in 2014. We also enter the LTA National Championships (girls and boys) and LTA Year 10 competition (girls). We have enjoyed considerable success in the past, notably in 2011 when our boys were placed tenth in the national competition.
Chris Warner is College’s Tennis Professional and runs training at lunchtimes in the Autumn and Spring Terms, as well as extensive group coaching in the Summer Term. We run trips to Wimbledon and the National Tennis Centre, which have always proved extremely popular.
Finally, College also runs a tennis club, open to the local community.
