The stage beckons

On Monday 4th October, talented pupils from CCJS will be performing a compelling 30 minute abridged version of ‘The Taming of the Shrew’ by William Shakespeare as part of The Shakespeare Schools Festival on Monday 4th October at The Everyman Theatre, Cheltenham. To purchase tickets, please call the box office on 01242 572573.

This is the 10th anniversary of the Festival and the 4th time that The Junior has been involved – last year the CCJS pupils were chosen out of a cast of 500 schools to perform a Shakespearian play to the National Governors Association AGM at the Council Chambers in Birmingham.

In the lead up to this grand event (a one night special only), 29 members of the cast and crew have been invited backstage this week for a brief tour of the theatre and a 2 and 1/2 hr workshop with members of the National Theatre, who work in conjunction with the SSF group and the theatres. The two man team focused on projection, body language and movement. The pupils then had to 'perform' a 10 minute extract from their production upon which the National Theatre coaches.

Monday 4th October will see the pupils have a technical rehearsal at the Everyman, followed by the performance in the evening. It will be a nervous company that makes its way down, but hopefully they will be on a fabulous high by the end of it. Good luck to all involved.
