U11s notch up a second unbeaten season!

The U11 Colts A team have broken all school records this term, notching up an impressive two consecutive unbeaten seasons. Last season the team played and won 15 matches, marking over 300 points in total. This season, 17 matches were played and won, with the boys passing the 500 points barrier in their final match against Bromsgrove.

The talented youngsters not only won their individual matches but also two prep school tournaments; Prior Park and Monkton Combe. They competed against several strong sides all over the country, including St John’s, Chepstow, Clifton College in Bristol and Millfield in Somerset. Even more significantly, they won 12 out of the 17 matches to nil, conceding only 51 points while scoring 508.

Three members of the team have also since been selected for the South West Prep Schools Barbarians; team captain and centre Tom Stanton, prop Max Taylor-Baggs and scrum half Jordan Pemberton.

Mr Lewis, Colts Coach and Head of Rugby at Cheltenham College Junior School said: “It has been an immensely rewarding experience to coach such a totally committed group of players who were as focused in their training as they were versatile in their matches. The skill level of the boys was exceptional but what stood out the most was their aptitude for playing all positions on the pitch, from in the forwards to out on the wing. As a school, we believe strongly in providing specialist rugby coaching to all teams, especially the younger ones and we are now reaping the benefits of this approach. Throughout the last two seasons the whole team has built up both confidence and skill and every player thoroughly deserve this success.”

Indeed the future of next year’s fixtures looks bright for the Cheltenham youngsters, with the Colts B team having followed closely in the Colts A team’s footsteps, losing only one game in the season – and that by a single score!

A big well done to all involved.
