Upper School

A Typical Day in Upper School (Years 7 and 8)

  • To encourage better organisation – pupils do not carry bags around school but revisit their lockers at various points of the academic day to ensure they have the correct stationery and books to take to each block of lessons.
  • To foster a culture of independent learning Form Tutors undertake PALS – Personal Achievement and Learning Skills and Independent Study in Y7 and Y8 with their classes on a weekly basis.

Monday to Friday

8:10am: Registration with Class Tutors. Pupils hand in prep to relevant boxes outside class rooms. Pupils go to lockers and organise books for morning lessons by checking their timetable in their diaries. Tutors check attendance, home times and give out messages
8.30am: Teaching begins
10.30: Assemblies: Monday – whole school; Tuesdays – House; Thursday – collective Worship (on Wednesdays there is Class Tutor Time 12.55 – 1.15 to check diaries and enter stars into database)
10.55am: Bun & drink in the Dining Hall Morning break
11.15am: Pupils return to class; gather books for midmorning lessons and attend lessons
1.15pm: Lunchtime (1.15 –1.45 catch up club is available for pupils who wish to study or have work to catch up)
2.10pm: Registration; pupils gather books for afternoon lessons
2.20pm:

Teaching time begins (Wednesday afternoons are games and fixtures)
Friday – Chapel from 2.20 – 3.00 ( If there is a Sunday Service Congregational Hymn Practice replaces the Friday Chapel Service); then Upper School meeting 3.00 –3.20

3.20 - 4.20pm: Monday and Fridays - Games
4.20pm: Tuesdays and Thursdays - End of lessons
4.20 - 4.30pm: De-registration / general tidy of class areas
4.30pm: Bun and drink or leave for home
4.50 - 5.50pm: Activities or prep starts until
5.50pm: Day children leave, boarders head to tea

Saturday

8.30am: Registration with Class Tutors
8.45am: Assembly
9.05am - 10.50am: Academic lessons Periods 1, 2 and 2 (40 minute lessons)
10.50-11.10am: Bun & drink - morning break
11.10 -11.45pm: Period 4
11.45pm: Saturday activities and Fixtures - Games until 13.30 then lunch and home at 14.00 or afternoon fixtures commencing at 14:30
