Visit of SS officer Hicks

Year 5 meet the SS

Year 5 experienced the pleasure of learning through role-play this week when SS officer Hicks dropped in to present a German perspective on World War 2. We were excited by his adventures, amazed by his artefacts but also, horrified by the human suffering he recalled.
By the end of SS officer Hick’s visit, we all expressed a desire to know much more about WW2 and are determined to learn from the experiences of our forefathers.

The previous week, Year 5 had been introduced to the topic of World War Two by Mr Maddock. With the aid of a little role play, they saw how Germany was made to pay reparations for "causing" World War One (Thanks to Robbie for helping out in this area), and they saw how, through luck in one part and misfortune for many others, Adolf Hitler came to power (Thanks to Will for his help in this area). Within two weeks they have experienced opposite view points so hopefully they are now able to progress with their knowledge as we look at the Home Front in WW2.
