Cheltenham College Junior School is pulling out all the stops for World Book day, just around the corner on Thursday 3rd March 2011.
On this day, pupils will not be coming to school in their usual uniform but dressed as an extravangaza of book characters, such as a boy in striped pyjamas, Cruella De Vil, Robin Hood, pirates and no doubt a number of Famous Five children!
The day will play host to a variety of activities, including "Guess the Teacher" photographs and spot the popular characters, all in order to celebrate the wonderful world of books. Morning assembly will involve a parade of wonderful characters and prizes of various kinds.
On Friday 4th March, the popular children’s author Chris d'Lacey will be visiting the school to speak to the children. As the author of the Icefire books amongst others, he will inspire, encourage and amuse all the pupils.
Celebrated around the country, World Book Day is an opportunity for books and reading to take pride of place in a school day. Mrs Victoria Beevers, Head of English at the Junior School commented: “Inspiring a love of books in young children is so important, especially in a modern world where literacy levels are fundamental to success, both in the classroom and beyond school. Books are not just a place where children can lose themselves in an author’s magical world of imagination, but where they can find information that will help them in their learning and development.”
