Young Writers' Day

Young Writers' Day

For the fourth year running, Cheltenham College Junior School hosted the Young Writers' Day as part of The Times Cheltenham Literature Festival's Education programme. The event was open to Year 5 and 6 pupils from primary and prep schools all over Gloucestershire and this year a total of 30 children from Bisley Blue Coat School, Bourton on the Water, Oakridge Parochial School, Rose Hill Westonbirt, St Gregory the Great and Cheltenham College Junior School attended the day.

Acclaimed children's author, Vivian French, led three workshops, teaching pupils to explore new and unexpected ways of creating characters and helping them to plan gothic stories with a twist. Vivian has written over 200 books. She is well known for her Tiara Club series and the comic fantasy series Tales from the Five Kingdoms and she has a gift for creating extraordinary characters.

Mr Noll Jenkins, Acting Headmaster of Cheltenham College Junior School commented: "This is a wonderful opportunity for children to let their imaginations run wild in a fun and exciting manner. Not only does it give them a valuable insight into the world of fictional writing but it teaches them how to channel their own ideas into words. "
