Big Band Shines at Cheltenham Jazz Festival
Cheltenham College Big Band Shines at 2025 Cheltenham Jazz Festival
The Cheltenham College Big Band captivated audiences as they performed at this year’s Cheltenham Jazz Festival under glorious sunshine. The set opened with Ava delivering a soulful rendition of Stevie Wonder’s Superstition, followed by Sophia’s energetic interpretation of Miss Otis Regrets, popularised by Bette Midler.
Otto brought Rat Pack flair with Ain’t That a Kick in the Head, while Maisy delighted the crowd with Motown classic Can’t Hurry Love, complete with tambourine and audience participation. Returning to the stage, Ava performed Etta James’ I’d Rather Go Blind, followed by Daisy’s lively rendition of A Little Respect.
This year marked Mr Nye Banfield’s debut as band leader, and the performance also served as a heartfelt farewell to Upper Sixth musicians Ava, Freddie, and Felix, who were celebrated for their contributions and wished well on their future musical journeys.
