Pathways & Possibilities: A Global Journey in Music

At Cheltenham College we aim to prepare pupils for undergraduate study in Music by combining strong academic foundations with a rich and varied musical life. Curtis has made the most of this environment and has received an offer to study Music at the University of Hong Kong.

Throughout his time at College he has shown intellectual curiosity and impressive versatility as a musician, particularly in areas such as aural perception, melodic dictation and the analysis of music for film, television and video games. Alongside this, he has developed strong interests in music technology and composition.

Curtis has been closely involved in the musical life of the College. A versatile performer on piano, saxophone and voice, he has contributed to a number of ensembles including Big Band, College Choir and Chamber Choir. He also founded his own rock band, RockHeart, exploring songwriting, recording and production, and releasing a Christmas album on Spotify in December.

Performance has been central to Curtis’s musical journey. Highlights have included giving a solo recital in preparation for his piano diploma, performing at Steinway Hall, competing in the EPTA Piano Competition and internal College competitions, and taking part in a masterclass with Martin Roscoe, a Steinway Artist.

Curtis plans to continue developing his interest in music technology at university whilst maintaining an active life as a performer. We wish him every success as he begins the next stage of his musical journey.

Our Pathways & Possibilities series celebrates the journeys of our pupils as they take their next steps beyond College, while supporting current pupils and parents with expert guidance along the way. Each week, we will share a mix of success stories and practical advice from our Higher Education and Careers team to help inspire and inform future pathways.
