Classical roots. Modern minds.

Calling the Cotswolds home since 1841.

Heritage and Tradition

Some things are worth keeping. Others are worth building on.

At Cheltenham College, heritage isn’t a display case – it’s lived in every day. The Chapel, the Cricket Pavilion, the College Tower: not monuments to the past, but places our pupils still walk through, learn in, and call their own.

These buildings have watched nearly 200 years of pupils pass through them, and they still do the same job now as they did then – giving each new generation somewhere to belong. Traditions here aren’t preserved out of habit. They endure because they still mean something.

Nearly 200 years of history. Still finding new ways to matter.

Life in the Cotswolds

Set within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the College offers something few schools can authentically claim: town and country in equal measure.

Stone buildings and open skies. A short walk from Cheltenham’s own streets, and a world away from the ordinary. The landscape isn’t a backdrop to College life – it’s part of it, shaping how our pupils learn, play and grow, season after season.

It’s a rare kind of setting: close enough to a town full of culture and community, wide open enough to still feel like the countryside. Few places offer both. Fewer still make the most of it the way we do.

Student Life Today

Classical foundations. Modern minds.

Our pupils move through the same grounds that shaped generations before them – but their days are entirely their own. Ambitious, curious, forward-facing. History gives them roots; we give them room to grow.

Boarding

A boarding house should feel less like an institution, and more like a second home.

Ours do. Close-knit, warm, and rooted in the same sense of place that defines the wider College – boarding here means belonging, not just staying.

Academic Excellence

Confidence, not claims.

Cheltenham College pupils are placed among the top 5% nationally for academic progress through Sixth Form – the quiet result of an education that takes the long view, not the loud one.

Stories Worth Telling

Over the coming months, we’ll be sharing a series of stories exploring what place really means to a school like ours – the College’s relationship with the Cotswolds, its architecture, its traditions, and the everyday moments that connect nearly 200 years of pupils to this one corner of the world.

Some will look back. Others will simply capture College life as it is today. All of them, in their own way, explore why location matters so much to who we are.

Check back regularly, or follow along on social media, as new stories are added.
