Celebrating Excellent Futures

An Interview with Emily (2024, W)

Emily (2024, W) joined Cheltenham College for Sixth Form in 2022. As a 2024 leaver, Emily has shared her experience in Sixth Form with the Higher Education and Careers department, applying for universities overseas and her next steps.

Emily will now be going on to study Neuroscience and Psychology at King’s College London.

Hello Emily, please can you tell us what has your experience been like in Cheltenham College Sixth Form and with the Higher Education and Careers Department at College?

When I was looking at Sixth Form, I was captivated by the well-balanced life that College offers. I knew with the huge support from the pastoral care team and tutor, I could flourish in this College confidently. It was an incredible experience with the staff in Higher Education and Careers department. I still remember the career-related seminars held and one-to-one meetings with Mrs Evans who guided me to find my best-suited course.

Congratulations on your university offers! What overseas universities have you applied for?

Thank you! I applied for Medicine in the University of Hong Kong, Biology and Psychology in University of Toronto and University of British Columbia, and Biology and Mathematics in McGill University. I always have a passion in exploring human biology and hopefully can conduct research throughout my university course and contribute back to the society by working in the healthcare sector.

Please can you tell us more about why you have chosen to apply to universities overseas?

As I like to travel and study around the world to experience different education systems, I applied to universities in Canada and Hong Kong. Studying overseas can enrich my understanding of different cultures and to see the world in multiple perspectives.

What is a piece of advice you would like to give a pupil who’s thinking about applying to university?

Go for it and give it a try! If you are looking to apply for overseas universities, studying abroad is a fascinating experience which you can meet people around the world. The first step is to look at the universities’ websites and see whether the programs they offer intrigue you or not. Do not hesitate to get in touch with Mr Nelson (Overseas University Counsellor) at any time as his door is always open for you!

Thank you Emily, we are wishing you the very best for your future beyond Cheltenham College!
