Exceptional FPQ Results for Third Form

All Third Form pupils complete the Foundation Project Qualification, achieving exceptional results in 2026.

Third Form pupils at Cheltenham College have achieved outstanding results in the Foundation Project Qualification (FPQ), continuing the College’s commitment to developing independent learning skills from an early stage.

In 2026, 86% of pupils achieved grades A*-A, while 100% achieved A*-B, reflecting the enthusiasm, creativity and dedication shown throughout the programme.

Equivalent to half a GCSE, the FPQ provides pupils with an introduction to independent research and project-based learning. Working on a topic of personal interest, pupils learn how to plan a project, gather and evaluate information, present their findings and manage their time effectively.

FPQ projects frequently inspire pupils to pursue ambitious lines of enquiry. One pupil researching international relations wrote to 14 world leaders as part of her project and received responses from seven, demonstrating the confidence, curiosity and independence that the qualification encourages.

The FPQ also forms part of Cheltenham College’s wider pathway of independent learning. Building on the skills developed in Third Form, pupils go on to complete the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) in the Sixth Form, enabling them to tackle increasingly ambitious and self-directed research projects.
