Oxford Art Trip

Inspiration and Ideas for GCSE Art

Pupils enjoyed an inspiring art trip to Oxford, visiting the Ashmolean Museum and the Oxford Museum of Natural History while also exploring the historic surroundings of Oxford University. The visit provided valuable first-hand experience to support GCSE Art and encourage new creative ideas.

At the Museum of Natural History, pupils explored a wide range of exhibits, including fossils, artefacts, jewellery and objects from cultures across history. Using sketchbooks, they photographed and drew selected pieces, focusing on detail, form and texture.

The afternoon at the Ashmolean allowed pupils to explore independently, drawing inspiration from sculptures, paintings, ceramics and decorative objects across the galleries. The variety of artistic styles and techniques offered rich material for observation and sketching.

The trip concluded with pupils reflecting on their work and considering how their drawings and photographs could be developed further, particularly in relation to their GCSE Art theme of juxtaposition.
