Spring Concert: A Night at the Movies
Spring Concert Showcases Musical Talent with Film-Inspired Performances Whisking Audience Away to”A Night at the Movies”.
On Monday 24 March Big Classical hosted the Spring Concert: “A Night at the Movies.” First, the Concert Band kicked off the event. They played a vibrant medley from Disney’s Aladdin. Next, the Swing Band took the stage. They delivered jazzy renditions of Henry Mancini’s The Pink Panther and Moon River. Additionally, they performed My Favourite Things from The Sound of Music. Then, the Chamber Orchestra performed a moving version of John Williams’ Theme from Schindler’s List. Afterwards, the Chamber Choir presented a diverse program. They sang the American folk song Shenandoah, Gershwin’s I Got Rhythm, Elgar’s Lux Aeterna, and The Bare Necessities from The Jungle Book.
Following the interval, the College Choir returned. They performed Londonderry Air and Adele’s Skyfall. Subsequently, the Symphony Orchestra delivered powerful performances. They played Danse Macabre by Saint-Saens. Also, they performed the Theme from Mission: Impossible by Lalo Schifrin, and music from Gladiator by Hans Zimmer. Finally, the College Choir and Symphony Orchestra joined forces. Together, they performed Lacrymosa from Mozart’s Requiem and Queen’s iconic Bohemian Rhapsody.
Overall, the evening celebrated the wide range of musical talent at Cheltenham College and showcased the lasting magic of film music. The concert was a resounding success.
