Groton School Exchange
In the October half term, two of our Fourth Form pupils, Hugo (Fourth Form, Xt) and Claudia (Fourth Form, W), travelled to Groton School, MA, USA for one month to board and study on campus.
Now that Hugo and Claudia have returned to College, we have been able to hear all about their experiences, which they have shared with us below.

In October, Claudia and I were lucky enough to have the opportunity to go to Groton School and immerse ourselves in school life over there. I think that some of my favourite things about the school there was the fantastic campus, brilliant food and the sense of community. The friends I have made there will last for a lifetime and I am sure that I will see them in the near future.
Whilst I was there, I was nominated to do cross-country which I enjoyed much more than I thought I would. We would practice every day, through the stunning fall coloured woods, and I raced in three different races.
I think something that I have learned and experienced first hand at Groton is the hardworking ethic of all the pupils there and that has really inspired me. One of the highlights of the trip was definitely a day in Boston where we got to visit Harvard. I had a brilliant time.
We are looking forward for having two pupils from there come to College in the Summer Term.

My Groton experience was incredible and an amazing opportunity for my learning and adaptation skills.
My favourite subject in Groton was Global History with Ms Clements because I do not take History here in England, so it was an interesting change in my work environment. Interestingly, it was focused on ancient History, which linked to the Latin and Ancient Greek I am currently studying. I certainly did not expect the intensity level of academic work over in Groton, as pupils were frequently given assessments which counted towards overall grades weekly, but I enjoyed being in an intense academic environment as it challenged me. Although pupils were often using spare time to study or work, I learnt from my peers that vigorous work will without fail pays off in the long run and will be recognised and rewarded by staff and pupils. This will definitely help me for my future here at College and beyond.
My favourite memory from Groton was the Halloween dance. Everyone creatively dressed up, attended the dance party after walking through the thrilling haunted house -which was terrifying but hilarious- and snacked on all the delicious halloween treats!
Finally, parents and pupils, I plead you for when the time comes to encourage your children and friends to apply for this experience because it is a once in a lifetime opportunity that I doubt will be offered much in the future, and a change to experience school across the globe, meet new people, and most importantly, have fun!
