Imperial College Science in Medicine School Teams Prize 2024

In June, a team of then Lower Sixth pupils entered the Imperial College Science in Medicine School Teams Prize 2024.

For the ‘lung prize’, Melissa (Upper Sixth, CL), Ishbel (Upper Sixth, CL) and Xanthe (Upper Sixth, CL) designed a drug aimed at improving treatment options for those suffering with hypersensitivity pneumonitis (HP). While HP is a typically a condition limited to industries that involve working with livestock, bird handling or carpentry, cases are on the rise with a new cause, vaping. The proposed treatment sought to inhibit interleukin 4, a molecule that can cause fibrosis, scarring of the lung tissue. In September, the trio were invited to the final where they had to present their research to a team of 15 academics from the Imperial Biomedical Research Centre.

Following presentations from all the finalists, it has been announced that our group came second nationally!

A tremendous effort from all involved and we could not be more proud of them. The poster entered into the competition is below.
