STEM Afternoon

Two Helicopters Land on the Field for STEM afternoon in partnership with Babcock and Midlands Air Ambulance Charity.

On the afternoon of Tuesday 18 March, pupils from The Prep and College were excited to welcome two HEMS aircraft, which landed on The Prep Field as part of the College STEM afternoon. Pupils from the College who were interested in engineering and medicine were invited to attend the event alongside members from Cheltenham Educational Partnership (CEP) schools.

The afternoon began with the landing of the two air ambulance aircraft, where pupils had the opportunity to get up close to the aircraft and hear from the pilots, engineers and medics. Once the helicopters took off, the pupils went back to the science department for a series of workshops run by Babcock in the Science Department.

The workshops were as follows:

  • Workshop One: Midlands Air Ambulance Charity medical equipment demonstration.
  • Workshop Two: Midlands Air Ambulance Charity CPR/defibrillator demonstration.
  • Workshop Three: Babcock Engineering – Show and tell of a helicopter engine
  • Workshop Four: Babcock Pilots – Flight planning activity.

It was an inspiring afternoon for all involved!
