Year 5 Evacuee Day
Year 5 pupils go back in time to bring their classroom learning to life.
Year 5 headed off to Winchcombe Station for an Evacuee Experience Day. They were dressed in their 1940s clothes and had their gas mask boxes and identity tags, ready to be billeted. During the day, they met the headmistress of their new school in the country, learning about rationing and gas masks for babies, as well as the toys they could expect to play with. They experienced a bombing raid in the air raid shelter, put out fires with a stirrup pump, and also caught a German spy on the train! It was an amazing day, enjoyed by all, and it brought home how resilient and brave the war evacuee children had to be all those years ago.
