Pre-Prep

Reception to Year 2

Where Curiosity Grows and Confidence Takes Flight

Cheltenham Pre-Prep is where children discover the joy of learning, form strong foundations and grow in confidence from their very first days at school. Set within beautiful green grounds just minutes from the centre of Cheltenham, our Pre-Prep offers a nurturing, joyful and stimulating environment for children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2.

Everything we do is shaped by a holistic philosophy: we educate the whole child. Learning is active, creative and purposeful, and sits alongside a strong focus on kindness, manners, good humour and positive relationships. Our experienced and caring staff work closely with families to support every child’s intellectual, physical, emotional and spiritual development.

Children feel safe, known and valued here, and that sense of happiness and belonging allows them to flourish.

A Seamless Journey Through Pre-Prep

Our Pre-Prep is carefully structured to ensure a smooth, confident progression from Reception into Key Stage 1. Classrooms sit alongside one another within the same welcoming environment, so children quickly become familiar with routines, spaces and the older pupils around them. This continuity builds independence and excitement as they move through the school.

Reception

From Four Years

Pupils in our Reception class are supported by a caring and experienced team in a warm and nurturing environment.

Reception pupils make full use of the beautiful Pre-Prep grounds through Outdoor Learning and follow a wide and varied curriculum, with opportunities to explore all areas of learning while enjoying themselves and having fun. Alongside their class teacher, pupils take part in specialist teaching in French, Music, Drama, Well-Being and Sport.

Learning is engaging and purposeful, supporting children as they develop secure foundations in early literacy and numeracy through well-planned activities.

Years 1 & 2

From Five Years

As children move into Years 1 and 2, learning becomes more structured while remaining creative and inspiring. Teaching is built around a topic-led curriculum, with a clear focus on English, Maths and Science, alongside Art, Drama, Geography and History. Pupils continue to benefit from specialist teaching in French, Music, Drama, Well-Being and Sport and take part in regular Outdoor Learning and play within the Pre-Prep grounds.

Throughout the year, children enjoy termly drama performances and other opportunities to perform. In Year 2, pupils also begin representing the school in sports fixtures, taught by professional coaches and hosted on the school’s excellent facilities. These experiences help to build teamwork, confidence and pride.

A Day in the Life of Pre-Prep

Our Food

Food is one of the best parts of the day at Cheltenham Pre-Prep.

At mealtimes, pupils sit together with their friends at the little tables. The school’s chef prepares a variety of fantastic hot lunches and healthy snacks.

Children begin to learn about different types of food and where they come from. They practice table manners and enjoy eating together, while also developing a healthy relationship with food and mealtimes.
