College Community

Community is at the heart of Cheltenham College.

From individual House initiatives to whole-College projects, pupils are encouraged to engage with the world around them and to understand the importance of service, responsibility and compassion.

Through charitable giving, partnerships and community action, pupils develop a strong sense of social awareness and an instinctive spirit of philanthropy. These experiences help them to engage with real-world issues locally, nationally and internationally, while building skills and confidence that support Higher Education and future careers.

Our community work is shaped around three key strands: Charity, Partnership Projects and Community Action.

Charity

Charitable giving is an important part of life at College – each year, every House, the Prefect body, and the whole school work together to support a charity.

Our pupils generate their own ideas to support worthy causes, taking the lead in organising projects, events and fundraising initiatives. In recent years, pupils have raised funds through a variety of activities, from whole-school events and sporting fixtures to community challenges and charity evenings.

For the 2026–27 academic year, Cheltenham College is proud to support the Grace Kelly Childhood Cancer Trust.

Founded in memory of four-year-old Grace, the Trust funds research into rare and aggressive childhood cancers, raises awareness of the signs and symptoms of childhood cancer, and provides financial, practical and emotional support to families facing a childhood cancer diagnosis.

Throughout the year, pupils and staff will support the charity through a range of fundraising activities, including the whole-school Zumbathon, the Charity Rugby Match at Kingsholm Stadium, the netball fixture against Malvern, and many other events.

We look forward to coming together as a community to raise funds and awareness for this important cause.

The video below highlights last year’s College Tough Mudder event, which raised funds for our previous whole school charity, Scotty’s Little Soldiers.

Partnership Projects

Cheltenham College maintains a broad programme of local and international partnerships, designed to share expertise, widen access and foster meaningful collaboration.

Locally, we work closely with St John’s Church of England Primary School and All Saints’ Academy Cheltenham, sharing facilities, supporting Higher Education preparation and exchanging best practice. We also collaborate with a range of other local schools and organisations.

Internationally, our partnerships support education and wellbeing in Kenya, Romania, Nepal and South Africa, helping pupils to develop a global perspective and a deeper understanding of different communities and cultures.

Community Action

We encourage pupils to see themselves as active members of the wider Cheltenham community. Through volunteering and service, pupils develop empathy, responsibility and a strong sense of civic engagement.

Pupils support a wide range of local organisations, including care homes, schools, charity shops and community groups. These opportunities allow them to make a meaningful contribution while building valuable life skills that support future study and employment.
