Betsy has been a part of the Westal tutor team for three years and is in her first year as a resident tutor. Betsy was educated at the University of Gloucestershire, attaining a BA History degree and is currently studying, at the same institution, a MSc in Professional Practice in Sports Coaching. At College Betsy is a Sports Professional and Head of Netball, she is passionate about sport and loves nothing more than a games afternoon where she can convey her passion and knowledge to Cheltonians on the sports ground. Betsy is joined in Westal by her partner Dan, Head of Science, and their Sprocker spaniel, Rufus. In their spare time, the trio loves going for long walks in the Cotswolds and driving around in their Defender ‘Connie’.
Nick Nelson - House Tutor
Nick Nelson is a veritable veteran of the Common Room, having joined College in 1995. He has served as a Resident House Tutor of a boys’ House for five years, and Housemaster for six years. Nick is Head of History of Art and Director of Internationalism and Culture and teaches Music, Classical Civilisation, History of Art, Art and TPE. He runs courses in Architecture and Ornithology and regularly puts on cross-curricular events for the Sixth Form. Nick enjoys choral music, singing in the choir when time permits, and playing the piano and guitar. Other passions include observing wildlife - ornithology in particular, alongside gallery visits to view artworks. Nick is married to Katie, an interior designer and photographer. Together they have a company for Art History education, entitled Arcadia Education. They have two sons, Theodore (9) and Raif (7) and a daughter Clara (3).
Steve McQuitty - House Tutor
Steve was educated at The Royal Belfast Academical Institution and the University of Nottingham. He then attended the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst and was commissioned into the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders, spending five years in the Army and serving in Northern Ireland and Iraq. Steve then moved into teaching and spent seven years at Monmouth School, where he was Housemaster, Contingent Commander of the CCF and Master i/c Tennis. He joined Cheltenham College in September 2012, is Assistant Head (Co-curricular) and teaches Mathematics. He enjoys refereeing rugby fixtures, is a member of the CCF (Army) and coaches girls’ tennis in the Summer Term. Steve is married to Jane and they have two sons, Ted and Henry.
