The Pre-Prep Journey

Our fantastic surroundings mean that every day we have the opportunity to get outside, hear the birds in the trees, explore the wildlife amongst the leaves in Outdoor Learning and discover the amazing world around us!

Cheltenham Pre-Prep is set in beautiful green grounds just a few minutes away from the centre of town. Throughout the year we are always venturing outside to learn through play, explore the world and have lots of fun.

Our Nursery School is next door to our Reception, Year 1 and 2 classes. This means that, when the time comes to move up, children are able to move easily through to the main Pre-Prep having already seen and had some interaction with the ‘bigger’ children around the grounds.

As well as discovering nature, in Years 1 and 2 (Key Stage 1), pupils have the opportunity to begin fully participating in sports and fixtures too. Our wonderful teachers are experts at getting the children involved and moving; the real challenge for them is keeping up with the little ones!

During their time at the Pre-Prep children develop so much, both emotionally and physically. Time flies when we’re all having fun!

Each part of our Pre-Prep is designed to ensure that everyone flourishes in the right surroundings, supported by the very best staff with the correct level of activities and engagement for their age.

Nursery School

From Two Years and Nine Months

Pupils can join Cheltenham Pre-Prep aged from two years and nine months upwards in the Nursery School. It’s a vibrant but cosy environment designed to help them take their first steps exploring the world. There’s always something going on, whether it’s discovering how to use fingers and thumbs to create miniature works of art or simply cuddling up with a storybook and a snack before nap time.

Everyone will begin activities such as French, Music, Drama, Well-Being and Sport too.

Reception

From Four Years

When pupils reach the age of four, they move upwards to our Reception class. Each child continues to experience the same great care and support as they begin their educational journey, but now they are also out exploring the beautiful Pre-Prep grounds in Outdoor Learning.

Years 1 & 2

From Five Years

At the age of five, pupils move from Reception seamlessly into Key Stage 1, Years 1 & 2. They will have likely seen ‘the bigger children’ around the Pre-Prep site already and so their move upwards will be smooth and exciting too!

In this part of the Pre-Prep everyone moves towards a more structured learning environment. Teaching is based around a creative curriculum, focusing on English, Maths and Science. Topic-led learning continues to interest everyone in wider subjects such as Art, Drama, Geography and History.

In Year 2 pupils also get the opportunity to represent the school in school teams every term. Drama performances are held every term giving them the chance to explore their acting skills.

Onwards

At the end of Year 2, pupils progress upwards again to Cheltenham Prep. Everyone is given the opportunity to spend time in The Prep before moving on, preparing them to spread their wings and fly on to the next stage of their learning journey.
