For April 2026, Cheltenham College seeks an outstanding teacher of Sports Science to lead this well-established Department. The successful candidate will provide vision for the development of the subject, strong leadership and skilful team management.

Pupils study: AQA GCSE PE, AQA A Level Physical Education and OCR Level 3 Extended Certificate in Sport and Physical Activity (CTech).  In the classroom, to better support the pupils, the department collects practical video footage for both GCSE and A Level pupils which creates more time for practical and theoretical learning within the subject. The practical element supports the theoretical specification giving each pupil a variety of learning opportunities. Beyond the core curriculum, pupils learn the importance and value of all that sport offers.

The successful candidate will be able to stretch the highest attaining pupils whilst also being able to use adaptive strategies to teach across the ability range. Aside from being an outstanding classroom practitioner, the postholder will be responsible for ensuring that, within the department, teaching and learning are excellent, specifically through lesson observation, appraisal, continuing professional development. As well as offering opportunities for pupils and colleagues to develop, the successful candidate will also show an enthusiasm for their own professional development and will wish to contribute to College’s rich co-curricular programme.
